In April 2024, Berwick, a Spanish capital company belonging to the San Pablo Group—heavily invested in sports and real estate—took ownership of the San Roque New Course after winning a 50-year concession granted by the San Roque municipality.
The New Course at San Roque opened in 2003 and was designed by Perry Dye and Seve Ballesteros. It has since become a well-respected and highly regarded course, standing among the finest in the region.
This championship course presents a challenge for low-handicap golfers, but with five teeing positions and fairways wider than the San Roque Old Course, it remains playable for higher handicaps, provided they play from the blue tees. It is a complex and very long course.
Nevertheless, the design rewards strategic play and smart ball placement. Water hazards guard four greens, and more than 100 bunkers are strategically positioned throughout the course.
The greens rank among the fastest you will find on the Costa del Sol, also known as the "Costa del Golf.".
